This proposal is the result of the study conducted by APTAE with funding and support of INRENA CI on investment requirements and increased rates main entrance to the ANP of Peru.
The study population consisted of nature tourists who visited the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu (Inca Trail), Huascaran National Park, Tambopata National Reserve and Lake Titicaca. (Paracas was initially considered, however, by the recent earthquake could not be reached to include.)
The main response that aimed to obtain the study is whether the tourist use of ANP may be an effective source of livelihood for the conservation of natural area if the tourists and others are willing to participate in this process by increasing entrance fees to the protected space
The results indicate that tourists visiting protected areas remain in the country an average of 28 days, which is twice as long as other tourists spend in Peru and also their level of expenditure is higher because they use services as a tour guide, agent in the area, shelter, and are willing to pay without problems up to $ 5 dollars more if this is an improvement visible at the destination.
The proposal is therefore recommended that this year, should be implemented the following actions: the reconstruction of statistical information on visits to the PNA in order to have better control of the tourists, development of scientific research for the conservation of the ANP and applied research for the development of sustainable tourism, including local people in tourism product development in the ANP, selective and progressive increase of rates and services in the current ANP tourist use, investment in planning site reservation service operation, interpretation centers and viewpoints, trails thematic, informative material, increased control and surveillance and capacity building of park rangers and the local population and restrooms.
During the past two years, CI Peru has strengthened a strategic alliance with the Peruvian Association of Adventure Tourism and Ecotourism (APTA), disseminating, encouraging and promoting the adoption of best practices for sustainable tourism in the country. For this APTAE with the support of CI was held over 10 workshops in different locations presenting and disseminating the Handbook of Best Practices in Tourism, developed by the Instituto Machu Picchu, fit and with the collaboration of PromPeru.
