Facula of Sciences, Extension Projects swept

With the present Academic Vice President, Dr. Oscar Galindo, and project managers, was launched at noon on January 20 the second exhibition "Extension, University Essential Nature of Knowledge" at the Casa Luis Oyarzun, Yungay 800.
The exhibition will present the 23 projects undertaken in 2010 by Extension professionals and teachers, who linked the community UACh regions of the country's southernmost area, making available las diversas áreas del conocimiento que se cultiva en la casa de estudios superiores y en relación con la docencia e investigación.
En la inauguración, el Director de Extensión, Prof. Arturo Escobar, destacó el impacto de la extensión en la vinculación con el medio, área en la cual la UACh se encuentra acreditada institucionalmente.
Asimismo, puso en relieve la importancia de las actividades de extensión entre las personas beneficiarias, en los estudiantes –que reciben una competencia en contacto con el medio- y en la investigación –al hacerla pertinente y en sintonía con lo que la sociedad demanda-.
La exposición –que también incluye projects 2009 - can be visited during the months of January and February on Sundays between 10 and 14 hrs. within the framework of the activities of UACh Antiques Fair. Thereafter, until 15 March, also will be open Monday through Friday.
Among the products that you can see are bamboo pen, card game for learning Chilean fungi, books "Larch, tell me your story / stories and life stories" and "Valdivia 1960, between water and debris" and storytelling CD.
ECOLOGICAL BAGS AND ENVIRONMENTAL RELEASE: LEARNING, protect and promote our biodiversity.
Bags Draft Ecological biodiversity includes lectures, for the appropriation of the natural surroundings of rural schools to participate in this initiative. Each bag is accompanied by educational material with species typical of each sector. The materials include posters, coloring books and play, adhesives, memorize game, among others.
This project deals with different activities of dissemination of scientific and university life, especially of what we do at the Laboratory of Biology and Conservation of Aquatic Mammals and Birds, staffed by undergraduate and graduate students, emphasizes Dr. Pavés. In this project participated in its design and implementation, Dr (c) Erwin Barria, Ph.D. (c) Benjamin Guzman, Carola Valencia (Veterinary Med), Diego Miranda (BA in Science), Rasma herem (BA in Science ), Alex Gang (Bio. Marina), Claudia Saldivia (Veterinary Med) and Tania Figueroa (Designer).
This is designed cloth bags 180, 100 posters, educational booklets 160 to paint, adhesives 500 and 200 games memorize alluding to the fauna of southern Chile, which were delivered to teachers and students in rural school Folilco in the community of Los Lagos, National Association in the district of La Union and Private School No. 97 of rheumatism in the commune of Paillaco. Was additionally performed Talks on Biodiversity and Wildlife Conservation along with an exhibition of specimens from the collections of the Institute of Zoology and the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Universidad Austral de Chile. Students who entered the talks were in preschool, 1-8 basic and 1 to 4 º medio. It is estimated that approximately 300 students and 50 teachers participated in these activities
SUMMARY
The region of Los Ríos, is the breeding and feeding habitat for many species of marine, terrestrial and freshwater aquaculture. Most of these species are unknown by most of society, probably because they have never been able to observe them. This ignorance promotes detachment and disinterest that exists in our natural and cultural heritage. Therefore, this project aims to encourage conduct of knowledge, understanding, conservation and protection of the natural environment of Los Ríos Region, through the development of discussion workshops on environmental education and the creation of educational materials such as booklets games, memorize, posters and stickers on the fauna of southern Chile. Along with this, will be an exhibition of wildlife in southern Chile belonging to the Institute of Zoology and the Faculty of Veterinary Science. They were also given a bag of gender with the aim to promote their use, explaining the problem of plastic bags in the ecosystem. All materials will be stamped and printed charismatic species in our region, in order to bring the student to the fauna, promoting three main concepts: knowledge, courage and Conservation. The material created and the talks will be aimed at students of basic education and general community of La Union, rheumatism and Los Lagos. It is expected that the teaching material is used on an ongoing basis during lessons by teachers in primary and secondary education. Similarly, it is expected change the use of plastic bags, bags by gender, in addition to decontaminate the environment, will help learn aspects of the biodiversity of our region, so close yet so distant at the same time.
