Sonicworks Satellite Receiver

During the month of February 2010, LECMAA members led by Dr. Hector Pavés and accompanied by a Ph.D. student at the University of Concepción, and student Benjamin Guzman Degree in Biological Sciences, Diego Miranda, made an expedition to Isla Guafo. The researchers spent 15 days exploring the coastline, as well as into the forest. During his stay collected tissue samples and faeces of sea lions, otters and penguins. Similarly, were collected several insect species undescribed to science. According to Dr. Pavés, the expedition was a total success, because there was a significant amount of sampling that will allow further development of biodiversity research filing the island. This sampling issue and developed in it, will integrating genetic and ecological analysis of species that have not yet been studied on the island. The student Benjamin Guzman, who made a study of genetic diversity of populations of Magellanic penguins, mentioned the need to continue these studies and expeditions that allow integration and transdisciplinarity. In this perspective, the approach will strengthen both the community knowledge, and understanding of biodiversity present in an area as pristine as Guafo Island.
